2012 Quickly Approaching

Over the past nine years of coaching soccer and the last two years as the Wyoming Coaches Association Soccer Representative I have seen the sport of soccer change in a variety of ways. The current game is being played by the best athletes in the state, at a high level. With the creation of two classes I have witness an increase in skill at the 4A level. The 3A level is slowly progressing, the largest problem is the realignment of classes and the addition of new schools. The 3A schools are not getting a chance to play the 4A schools as often. As we move forward my goal is to help bridge that gap. I would love to see the Casper Jamboree come back in some form, with every school in the state attending. This would allow 3A schools a chance to play 4A and for coaches to meet become a unified front for Wyoming Soccer. I would like to propose we meet the week after state to vote on All State, this would allow every coach the opportunity to meet other coaches and network. It would also decrease the stress at the state tournament. Communication has been the biggest struggle over the past two year in my position. I would like to get a representative from 3A and 4A to help meet the needs of both classes. This might require some discussion.

I am in the last year of my position. If you are interested in being the Representative for soccer, please let me know. I would be willing to do anouther three years if no one is interested or that is what the coaches want.

All-state voting, Soccer meeting, and COTY

Coaches,

With state soccer approaching we need to start thinking about all-state voting, soccer meeting, and COTY. List below are a couple of issues and things to consider.

1. Only coaches registered with the WCA can vote on all-state. All-state awards are given by the WCA; therefore, only coaches that are current members can vote.

2. Must register before May 16th; registration will be closed after that date. 2011-2012 registration will start on the 16th.

3. Current Bi-laws written in the WCA handbook: “SOCCER--First team All Conference athletes are the only athletes nominated for All State. Association member coaches vote for 3 goal keepers, 8 defenders, 8 midfielders and 6 forwards. Coaches may not vote for their own players. Top-vote recipients are first team All State.” Total of 25 per class and gender, this was an issue last year, I think we all need to get on the same page this year.

4. 3A we need to be thinking about how we are going to determine all conference players.

5. Please nominate your assistant coaches for the assistant coach of the year award.

Thanks,

Conclusion:

I am going to try to push proposal number two. If you combine #1 and #2 it seems like almost everybody is in favor of the tournament rule. This proposal is due by March 1st, when your AD asks you about it please vote for it. I know it is not perfect for everybody; although, I think it is the best thing for Wyoming Soccer. I like Coach Realing’s idea about regional Jamboree so I am going to start working on that, so I have something to present to the AD’s.

Proposal # 2

Teams shall be limited to sixteen regular season contests. One day 160 minute jamborees shall count as two contests and regular matches involving two teams shall count as one.
